Electric toothbrushes are all over the place these days, but are they worth the extra cash, or is the buzz just hype? Turns out there are pros and cons to switching to electric.

Pros

Easy to use: Electric toothbrushes do most of the work for you, making it easier to brush your teeth effectively.

Better Plaque Removal: Studies have shown that electric toothbrushes are better at removing plaque from your teeth, keeping you better protected from cavities. They use innovative design combined with power in order to maximize your brushing experience.

Timed: Electric toothbrushes are timed to brush for 2 minutes, so you’re not left guessing if you’ve brushed long enough. This is especially beneficial for children who have often have a difficulty with brushing their teeth for the recommended time.

Cons

Expensive: Electric toothbrushes are much more expensive compared to a standard toothbrush. Even the more basic electronic toothbrushes can be 2-3x the cost of a pack of disposable toothbrushes. The initial price tag, as well as additional maintenance and replacement every 2-3 months can add up quickly.

Break: Electric toothbrushes are much easier to break, and much more expensive to replace.

Charging: Electronic toothbrushes need to be charged or need replacement batteries. This can be inconvenient, especially for traveling.

What We Recommend:

We recommend buying an electronic toothbrush if you can afford one and also keeping a standard toothbrush for traveling. Even though they are more of an investment, consider making the switch to benefit your smile. It is important to know that electronic toothbrushes are not mandatory for taking care of your teeth. You can keep your teeth healthy with a standard toothbrush so long as you properly brush and floss. However, there are certainly advantages to using an electric toothbrush.
